This paper reports an experimental study of the ''in line'' mixing of
liquids. The purpose of the study was to. investigate the influence of
several factors as: the feeding system of the secondary liquid into t
he flux of the main one, the ratio between the flow rates of two liqui
ds and tile flowing conditions in the pipe, expressed by Reynolds numb
er, over the pipe length necessary for an as intense as possible mixin
g (perfect mixing). The mixing length for a horizontal pipe is given b
y: L(d)/d(p)=3235 Re--,Re-1. This equation allows the process design e
ngineer to give the mechanical designer of piping systems the exact le
ngth of the horizontal pipe to be provided for a perfect mixing of the
liquids.
