Abstract
The effect of sample size on goodness of fit indices that are widely u sed in structural equation models is discussed and empirically illustr ated. Many of the indices discussed in the article are reported in suc h applications as LISREL and EQS. GFI, AGFI, Normed fit index (NFI), N on-normed fit index (NNFI), Incremental fit index (IFI) and Comparativ e Fit Index (CFI) are examined for two types of sample size effects. T he means of the sampling distributions of GFI, IFI and CFI were relati vely stable across different sample sizes and these three indices were not as downward biased as NFI and NNFI.
