Abstract
A gall midge recently found on Dendrobium orchids in Florida, USA, is identified as Contarinia maculipennis Felt. The identification is base d on anatomical similarity to a polyphagous species originally describ ed from Hawaii but which now appears to be from south-east Asia. Conta rinia maculipennis is redescribed and compared to Contarinia solani (R ubsaamen) and C. lycopersici Felt, two species with which it has been confused in the literature.
