PRENATAL-DIAGNOSIS OF CEREBRAL ARTERIOVENOUS MALFORMATION USING COLORDOPPLER ULTRASONOGRAPHY - CASE-REPORT AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

Aneurysms of the vein of Galen are rare, representing less than 1% of all intracranial arteriovenous malformations. In the fetus, however, a lmost all cerebral arterial malformations involve the vein of Galen, u sually presenting in the neonatal period with severe cardiac failure l eading to neonatal death. In this report rile present a case of arteri ovenous malformation involving the vein of Galen detected prenatally a t 35 weeks ,with the use of color Doppler ultrasonography. The literat ure is reviewed in an attempt to delineate the role of prenatal ultras onography in the diagnosis and its impact on perinatal outcome.
