Abstract
A formalism for the calculation of fields generated by current distrib utions on hyperbolic surfaces of revolution is presented and used to g enerate designs for shielded gradient coils. One application is the de velopment of small, insertable coils suitable for head imaging while a llowing clearance for shoulders. This technique demonstrates that effi cient designs that offer substantial advantages over conventional cyli ndrical designs are possible.
