I. Jimenez et al., EFFECTS OF SALVIA-LAVANDULIFOLIA VAHL SSP OXYODON EXTRACT ON PANCREATIC ENDOCRINE TISSUE IN STREPTOZOTOCIN-DIABETIC RATS, PTR. Phytotherapy research, 9(7), 1995, pp. 536-537
have investigated the antidiabetic activity of Salvia lavandulifolia s
sp. oxyodon extract on rats pancreotomized by streptozotocin (STZ). At
a dose of 10 mg dry residue/kg the extract produced: an increase in L
angerhans islet number and size; an increase in pancreatic insulin con
tent. When both Salvia extract (10 mg/kg) and glibenclamide (1 mg/kg)
were administered concurrently to STZ-diabetic rats, a significant dec
rease in glycaemic level (>40%) and mortality index was achieved.
