Eighteen species of Scolytidae are reported from Washington state for
the first time or raised from obscurity: Scierus annectens LeConte, Hy
lesinus californicus (Swaine), Phloeotribus lecontei Scehdl, Carphobor
us vandykei Bruck, Polygraphus rufipennis (Kirby), Crypturgus borealis
Swaine, Pityogenes knechteli Swaine, Ips mexicanus (Hopkins), Ips per
tubatus (Eichhoff). Ips plastographus plastographus (LeConte), Ips woo
di Thatcher, Trypodendron betulae Swaine, Trypoplhoeus striatulus (Man
nerheim), Procryphalus mucronatus (LeConte), Procryphalus utahensis Ho
pkins, Pseudopityophthorus pubipennis (LeConte), Pityophthorus alpinen
is G. Hopping and Pityophthorus grandis Blackman. Host tree and collec
tion data are given for these species. A total of 105 scolytid species
known from Washington are listed.
