TEXTILE FILTER MEDIA IN THE BEET SUGAR-INDUSTRY

Industrial filter media are to be found in many forms. Filtration proc esses in the beet sugar industry however generally use flexible textil e materials. This paper describes the relevant factors when designing a filter fabric, including raw material selection, fabric construction and finishing processes. Significant differences exist from factory t o factory in terms of equipment and process chemistry such as degree o f liming, anti-scalents etc. Further differences exist from country to country due to differing campaign durations, beet quality and levels of plant efficiency.
