THE KINETICS OF CALCIUM-PHOSPHATE PRECIPITATION IN CLARIFICATION .1. THE WATER SUCROSE PHOSPHORIC-ACID MILK OF LIME SYSTEM

The kinetics of calcium phosphate precipitation were studied under con ditions of cane juice clarification. The precipitates formed were char acterized by X-ray diffraction and infrared absorption. It was conclud ed that calcium phosphate precipitation takes place in two distinct st eps. Based on the results obtained, a reaction scheme in agreement wit h experimental observations was proposed. The individual effects of th e variables tested were also studied. The second part of this paper, t o be published in the next issue, explores the effects of some impurit ies and considers an industrial cane juice under pre-liming conditions .
