At the Institute for Legal Medicine in Hamburg misdiagnosed fatalities
caused by myocardial infarction were analysed. Typical situations tha
t were responsible for the doctor's diagnostic error are demonstrated.
Some cases exhibited a ''classical'' history and clinical symptoms; t
he false diagnosis and insufficient treatment was avoidable. In other
cases the clinical symptoms were extremely uncharacteristic and mitiga
ted. Forensic aspects in connection with this kind of maltreatment are
discussed.
