Abstract
Saint Meinolf, born ca. 802/3 was the founder of the Cloister Boddeken in the bishopric of Paderborn. The appearance of red deer there led t o the selection of this locality, which even today is in the vicinity of the important red deer population in the district of Detnold. The v eneration of this saint simultaneously infers relationships to a hunti ng culture as is shown by statues (Figs. 10-13 and 15), reliquaries (F ig. 9), and paintings (Fig. 6 and 16).
