Characteristics of base-line-popping (BLP) noise in MR heads are descr
ibed. A simple mathematical model describing BLP noise spectrum is pre
sented. In this model, random-telegraph-like noise is used to approxim
ate BLP noise. The correlation function and noise spectrum density are
derived analytically for a special case. The calculated noise spectru
m is in good agreement with experimental data. ''Excessive noise'' in
the low frequencies are found to be the general signature of BLP noise
for shielded MR heads.
