The micromagnetic structures of recorded tracks in two types of isotro
pic CoPtCr longitudinal recording media have been investigated using t
he modified differential phase contrast method of Lorentz electron mic
roscopy. Media intended for both inductive and magnetoresistive playba
ck have been studied and thin film specimens suitable for electron mic
roscopy were isolated from standard NiP plated AlMg hard disks. The ul
timate aim is to map the magnetization distribution associated with th
e writing process and to attempt to correlate this with the physical m
icrostructure of the films.
