The temperature dependence of the ''up''- and ''down'' switching field
s was measured magnetoptically for over a hundred individual, 40 mu m
x 40 mu m x 3 mu m ''pixels'', etched into a garnet film and represent
ing single domain particles. The best Rt to the distribution of the co
ercivity of the ''pixels'', i.e. of the width of the individual hyster
esis loops, is a Gaussian. Its mean value and temperature dependence c
losely match the major loop coercivity, and its standard deviation is
characteristic of the distribution of the ''strength'' of the defects,
responsible for the coercivity. The distribution of the interaction f
ields follows a Lorentzian function.
