Rw. Schutz et M. Xiao, PRACTICAL WINDOWS AND INHIBITORS FOR GRADE-2 TITANIUM USE IN ALKALINEPEROXIDE BLEACH SOLUTIONS, Tappi journal, 78(11), 1995, pp. 79-87
The authors present a corrosion database for Grade 2 titanium using la
boratory weight-loss testing in uninhibited and inhibited alkaline 0.2
-0.3% H2O2 solutions dt 65-80 degrees C. Despite titanium's limited re
sistance to uninhibited peroxide solutions, useful resistance dramatic
ally expands in solutions containing inhibiting species commonly exist
ing in bleach plant processes. Effective inhibitors are Ca+2, Mg salts
, and silicate. Using this corrosion database provides expanded applic
ation guidelines for acceptable use of Grade 2 titanium in Ca+2 ion-in
hibited solutions containing 0.3% maximum H2O2 by weight at 65 degrees
C, 70 degrees C, and 80 degrees C.
