E. Conde et al., POLYPHENOLIC COMPOSITION OF WOOD EXTRACTS FROM EUCALYPTUS-CAMALDULENSIS, EUCALYPTUS-GLOBULUS AND E-RUDIS, Holzforschung, 49(5), 1995, pp. 411-417
Polyphenolic composition (flavonoids and phenolic acids and aldehydes)
is studied in the ether soluble fractions of the methanolic extracts
of Eucalyptus camaldulensis, E. globulus and E. rudis wood. HPLC, TLC
and GC/MS are employed for compound identification. Gallic, vanillic a
nd ellagic acids; vanillin, syringaldehyde and sinapaldehyde; naringen
in and quercetin were identified. Some flavonols, flavanones and ellag
itannins were also recognized. Chemical assays for wood characterizati
on were carried out according to Tappi Test Methods. The differences i
n polyphenolic composition among the three species seem not to justify
their different aptitude as pulping raw material, described in litera
ture.
