Recent trends in the automotive industry have resulted in an increased
need for technology which should provide corrosion protection and the
required drawability in metal forming operations. A combination of ca
lcium overbased sulfonate and petroleum oxidate can replace both mill
oil and drawing compounds which are currently in use. The drawbead sim
ulation test was carried out to investigate the effects of such lubric
ants on drawing of electrogalvanized steel. The draw bead test demonst
rated good performance when the above combination ws evaluated on galv
anized steel test strips and performance was comparable to chlorinated
paraffins at similar concentrations and viscosities in oil.
