Va. Kalchenko et al., ADAPTIVE NATURE OF THE POLYMORPHISM FOR T HE SUPEROXIDE-DISMUTASE LOCUS IN CHRONICALLY IRRADIATED NATURAL-POPULATIONS OF CENTAUREA-SCABIOSAL, Genetika, 32(11), 1996, pp. 1509-1512
Adaptive function of superoxide dismutase polymorphism was revealed in
chronically irradiated natural populations of cornflower Centaurea sc
abiosa. In 12 generations of exposure to persistent ionizing radiation
, the frequency of the S allele of this polymorphic locus increased to
65%, and the frequency of the P allele decreased to 35%.
