Modified polypropylene (PP-M) has been obtained in the Institute of Nu
clear Research and Technology (INCT). The main component of PP-M is po
lypropylene MALEN P-J603, produced in Poland, with melt flow index MFR
= 8,58 g/10 min (230 degrees C/2, 16 kg). PP-M material can be especi
ally useful for medical application. Radicals which are formed during
polypropylene (PP) irradiation have fundamental influence on its prope
rties. Those radicals are located both in crystal and amorphous phase
and can be respectively recognized as stable and unstable ones. The ra
dical species formed during the irradiation of the polypropylene has b
een described on the base of electron spin resonance spectra. Detail i
nvestigation of medical quality of PP-M was performed. Chemical (water
and hexane ex-tract control), biological (toxicity, sterility, hemoly
tic properties) and physical (mechanical parameters) properties were i
nvestigated and described.
