In this work,a water-soluble,temperature sensitive linear polymer,poly
N-isopropylacrlylamide(poly-NIPAAm) was synthesized by means of gamma
radiation induced polymerization in mixed solvent of water-tetrahydrof
uran(THF) and several organic solvents. When mixed solvent of H2O-THF
was used, with the increasement of the content of H2O in the mixed sol
vent, especially from 60% to 100%,the molecular weight of polyNIPAAm co
uld be raised from ten thousand to nearly one million. Besides THF, so
me other organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, dichloromethane,
chloroform, tetrachloromethane, acetone, methylisobutylketone(MIBK) an
d 1,4-dioxane were used. Then the white power product of polyNIPAAm wi
th different molecular weight can be synthesized. PolyNIPAAm synthesiz
ed in this work was tried to use in concentration of metal ions in aqu
eoes solution. Concentration effect of Au3+ was obviously. It has no t
angible proofs for UO22+ with large ion radius, but for the U4+ and so
me rare-earth ions, the concentration effects were obtained in differe
nt degrees.
