We present an investigation of magnetic linear dichroism in angle-reso
lved photoemission distributions (MLDAD) from Fe(011) using unpolarize
d Mg Ka radiation. The experimental geometry is identical to that prev
iously used in recent spin-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (
SRXPS) studies of ferromagnets. For this geometry, the results indicat
e a small but observable MLDAD for the Fe 2p(3/2) and 2p(1/2) peaks. N
o definitive MLDAD is observed for the Fe 3p level, the Fe valence ban
d, or Auger transitions originating from a 2p(3/2) hole. For all spect
ral features, MLDAD spectral variations are very small in comparison t
o the intrinsic (exchange-induced) spin polarization of the Fe photoem
ission spectra.
