Abstract
The trans configuration of an iodomethyltetrahydrofuran derivative (2) has been determined as part of a structure-activity relationships stu dy of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors with correlated platelet-activat ing factor antagonistic activity. Synthesis of tetrahydrofurfuryloxy-p yridinium bromide via the key intermediate (2) is described. C14H19IO4 , M(r)=378.2, monoclinic, space group P2(1)/n, a=7.686(1), b=8.113(2), c=24.249(6)Angstrom, beta=99.96(2)degrees, V=1489(1)Angstrom(3), Z=4, D-x=1.69Mgm(-3), T=293 K, F(000)=752, mu(MO K alpha)=21.3cm(-1), R=0. 034 for 2494 independent reflexions with I > 3 sigma(I).
