Abstract
This paper refers to one of the entrances to the former 'delivery hous e' of the old Vienma General Hospital, namely the door in Rotenhausgas se. It was used for 70 years, from 1784 to 1854. According to the wish es of Emperor Joseph II, unmarried women could be supported by special ists, anonymously and thus escaping shame. Connected with it was the p rotection of the newborn against exposure and infanticide.
