Biogenic amines in me brain tissue of the American Cockroach have been
identified and quantified by an extraction derivatisation procedure u
sing ditrifluoromethyl benzoyl chloride (DTFMBCL) and isopropyldimethy
l silylchloride (IPDMS CL). The molecular ion of these N-DTFMB-XIPMDMS
derivatives carried most of the ion current under NICI conditions, wi
th potential limit of detection below the picogram level. 5-Hydroxytry
ptamine and N-acetyl-5-hydroxytryptamine have been quantified by conve
rting their O- and O-, N-acetylates with perfluoroacyl anhydrides. The
limit of detection of these spirocyclic products on-column was less t
han 15 pg.
