NUCLEATION IN THE REACTION OF SODIUM NITR OSYLPENTACYANOFERRATE WITH ZN(II) AND CU(II)

The precipitation of Cu (II) and Zn (II) nitroprusiates has been studi ed. The compounds were prepared varying the temperature, the ionic str ength, the viscosity of the medium, and the time of aging. Specific ar ea and solubility were determined for each of the precipitates. The sp ecific interfacial free energies, the critical supersaturations, the s izes of the critical nuclei, the numbers of participies in the critica l nuclei, the reaction orders and the activation energies were evaluat ed. Mechanisms of reaction were proposed in agreement with the experim ental results.
