A NEW SYNTHESIS OF THE MACROCYCLIC LIGAND P-T-BUTILCALIX[4]ARENE BUTYL TETRAACETATE

Two simple methods for the preparation of the title compound are repor ted. The first one involves two consecutive reaction paths, i.e, alkyl ation of the phenolic functionalities of the ciclooligomeric precursor with ethyl bromoacetate followed by butyl transesterification. The se conda procedure directly affords the desired product through a one-ste p reaction of the precursor with the appropriate alpha-halogeno-ester. Both methods lead to the tetraester in fairly excellent yields.
