Abstract
More than half of cancers occur in persons 65 years of age and older. Temporal and geographic differences in incidence suggest that most of these cancers have environmental causes. Epidemiologic studies consist ently indicate that dietary components, particularly the consumption o f fruits and vegetables with a high content of beta carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E lower the risk of certain cancers.
