Abstract
Tritiated water contains radiolytic hydrogen peroxide. The corrosion p otential of Inconel 690, as well as the redox potential of tritiated w ater, taken immediately from a closed storage vessel with a pressure o f 9 x 10(5) Pa radiolytic gases, are in the passive-transpassive regio ns. After removal from storage, the concentration of tritiated hydroge n peroxide decreases and these potentials are in the passive region sh owing the importance of the concentration of radiolytic species on pas sivity and corrosion. Depending on passive potentials and tritiated hy drogen peroxide concentration, the passive oxide layer changes. The th ickness increases with the passive potential, then decreases at higher passive potentials or tritiated hydrogen peroxide concentration. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
