Abstract
This paper interprets, by field analysis, the widely observed phenomen on of surface charge accumulation in gas insulated systems. It is show n that space charge inevitably will be accumulated when the medium in the field is lossy and inhomogeneous, and that the surface charge accu mulation can be predicted by field theory. Effects of surface charge a nd some relevant topics are also discussed in this paper, based on the field analysis.
