Abstract
This paper reviews various methods used to simulate avalanche growth d ue to electron multiplication in gases in uniform electric fields. The Monte Carlo simulation method and the Boltzmann equation methods are considered and data in sulfur hexafluoride are summarized in view of i ts use in engineering applications.
