Abstract
The first measurements of the vector analyzing power iT(11) in the rea ction pi(+)d --> pp at incident-pion energies of 350, 400, and 450 MeV were carried out in the angular region theta(c.m.s) > 40 degrees. A f ast rise in the vector analyzing power is found at 450 MeV. This rise can be related to a well-known feature in the behavior of the asymmetr y A(y0) in the inverse reaction pp --> d pi(+). The behavior of iT(11) at energies of 350 and 400 MeV was found to be in agreement with pred ictions of the Arndt phase analysis [5].
