The effect of shadowing corrections on the behavior of proton structur
e functions at small x is considered. Gluon shadowing proves to be sig
nificant in the HERA kinematic region, whereas shadowing of the quark
component is noticeably weaker. The specific form of gluon distributio
ns depends on the form of the boundary condition used at Q(2) = Q(0)(2
). The difference in the results obtained with the Kuraev-Lipatov-Fadi
n and Altarelli-Parisi evolution equations is also considered.
