We show analytically that inclusion of contributions from third-order
nonlinearities in a theoretical model for optical parametric interacti
ons derived from second-order nonlinearities makes possible the predic
tion of various kinds of stationary solitary-wave solution. Specifical
ly these waves consist of hyperbolic (bright and dark types), algebrai
c (bright and dark types), and kink/antikink types. In the limit of va
nishing third-order nonlinearities the first solitary-wave family (hyp
erbolic type) is reduced to solitary waves already reported. Effects o
f dissipations including one- and two-photon absorption are discussed
as well. (C) 1995 Optical Society of America
