Abstract
We analysed the effect of ethanol on basal cytosolic-free calcium conc entration ([Ca2+](i)) in cultured rat myocytes. Ethanol caused a dose- dependent decrease of the resting [Ca2+](i). Removal of ethanol was fo llowed by a transitory increase of [Ca2+](i) above the basal level. In cells chronically exposed to ethanol, [Ca2+](i) normalized to the pre vious level.
