Abstract
Total hip replacement is one of the most common adult reconstructive p rocedures performed today. Even though training in total hip replaceme nt has become fairly common in many orthopedic residency programs, com plications can still occur during surgery. Preoperative planning and c lose attention to detail may prevent intraoperative problems. Awarenes s of the potential downfalls allows the surgeon to properly prepare fo r surgery, avoid intraoperative complications, and manage unavoidable problems when they do arise.
