J. Pauk et al., NEW WINTER-WHEAT VARIETY - GK-DELIBAB DEVELOPED VIA COMBINING CONVENTIONAL BREEDING AND IN-VITRO ANDROGENESIS, Cereal Research Communications, 23(3), 1995, pp. 251-256
Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivar 'GK Delibab' was improved and re
leased in 9 yeats combining conventional breeding steps and plant biot
echnology methods. 'GK Delibab' is derived from a multiple cross made
in 1984. After F-2 selection, haploids were induced from F-3 generatio
n in anther culture. Fertile doubled haploid (DH) seeds and lines obta
ined via colchicine treatment were multiplied and tested further in nu
rsery. After three years of official tests at National Institute for A
gricultural Quality Control (NIAQC) for registration 'GK Delibab' was
registered and released as a winter wheat variety in Hungary. The majo
r agronomical advantages of 'GK Delibab' are its excellent winterhardi
ness, premium bread making quality and earliness. The performance of '
GK Delibab' suggests that for breeding lines originating from DH plant
s may be as valuable as lines originating from traditional breeding so
urces.
