Jc. Gibbings et al., THE PROXIMITY HOT-WIRE PROBE FOR MEASURING SURFACE SHEAR IN AIR-FLOWS, FLOW MEASUREMENT AND INSTRUMENTATION, 6(3), 1995, pp. 201-206
A simple modification to a standard hot-wire probe enables it to be us
ed to measure surface shear in an air flow. A careful calibration give
s a limited linear calibration curve that represents both laminar and
turbulent flows. The several advantages of the device, including its u
se where other techniques cannot be used, are described.
