Abstract
Reports on ten countries in south and north America, prepared followin g a common framework and guide by Mr. Pla Rodriguez, form the basis fo r this article in whick he outlines the legal provisions governing wor kers' rights to privacy. He contrasts the various laws and practices i n such spheres as the control of personal information, the relevance o f workers' beliefs, the admissibility of searching workers' bags, the acceptability of lie detector tests, recruitment methods, surveillance methods and suggests actions, particularly in the international spher e, that should be taken to put the protection of the right to privacy on a sounder footing.
