In managing the situational factors to improve the performances of pro
duction and inventory control systems, the sequence for managing the f
actors should not be arbitrarily decided, since the factors are not in
dependent but are inter-related. To determine the suitable sequence, t
he inter-relationships among the situational factors are studied. Base
d on these relationships, a hierarchy of the factors is obtained by us
ing Fuzzy Interpretative Structural Modelling (FISM). In addition, ind
irect relationships between the factors are also studied. Based on the
ir driver power and dependence, the factors are classified into sector
s. The approach presented can be used as a guideline for determining t
he sequence for managing the situational factors.
