GUANIDINIUM ETHYLENEDIAMINEDIACETATO-N,N',O,O'')COBALTATE(III)

The title compound {aminomethanamidinium cis-(R,P)-carbonato(N,N'-ethy lenediaminediacetato) cobaltate(II), [C(NH2)(3)][Co(C6H10N2O4)(CO3)]} crystallizes in the space group P2(1)/c. The guanidinium cations and a mino groups on the edda ligand form a complex network of eight to ten hydrogen bonds to both the coordinated and uncoordinated O atoms of th e edda carboxylate groups and the carbonate ligands of neighbouring ch elate anions. The hydrogen bonding between the guanidinium cations and carbonate ligands neither resembles that in guanidinium bicarbonate n or that between arginine and bound carbonate in ferrilactoferrin, an i ron-binding protein which contains a carbonate ligand on the Fe3+ ion. Bond lengths and angles in the Com coordination sphere are not signif icantly different from those of other Com carbonate complexes or other Co-III edda complexes.
