Neurofibromas may present within an inherited complex (von Recklinghau
sen's disease) or sporadically [1]. Both forms may present with orthop
aedic problems, the commonest being scoliosis, pseudarthrosis and peri
osteal or intramedullary cystic change [2]. In addition, malignant tra
nsformation of neurofibromas may occur. We present the case of a 22-ye
ar-old female who had no family history or clinical evidence of von Re
cklinghausen's disease where a periosteal neurofibroma mimicked an ost
eochondroma on plain radiography.
