RAMAN-SPECTROSCOPY AND X-RAY-DIFFRACTION STUDIES ON PBO AND (PBO)(1-X)(TIO2)(X)

X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy studies of alpha-PBO and (PbO )(1-x)(TiO2)(x) were performed over a wide temperature range. Investig ations on both samples allow us to point out useful information concer ning lone-pair interactions from both structural and dynamical points of view. The complementarity of the experimental data gives a better u nderstanding of the phase transition process in PbO, and also of the s tability of the tetragonal structure in the solid solution (PbO)(1-x)( TiO2)(x).
