Abstract
The left-handed spiral instability of a linear vortex in a planar supe rconductor in a magnetic field oriented parallel to the transport curr ent is investigated on the basis of an exact solution for a spiral Abr ikosov magnetic vortex in a plate of a type-II superconductor. It is s hown that the critical instability current in thin films is comparable to the experimentally observed values and can determine the resistive behavior in a wide range of fields.
