Abstract
The interaction of mobile surfactant ions in the alignment layer and t he surface charges produced by the spontaneous polarization of a ferro electric liquid crystal (FLC) leads to the appearance of a monostable response of the FLC. The source of the monostability is the internal f ield produced in the FLC by the surfactant ions in the alignment layer . (C) 1995 American Institute of Physics.
