An Fe-III phosphate, K3Fe3(PO4)(4) . H2O, has been synthesized by high
-temperature/high-pressure hydrothermal method and characterized by si
ngle-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the ortho
rhombic space group Pnna with a = 10.717(1), b = 20.823(4), c = 6.5296
(9) Angstrom, V = 1457.1(4) Angstrom(3) and Z = 4. The structure is ba
sed on a sheet involving corner-linkage between FeO6 octahedra, and co
rner- and edge-sharing between FeO6 octahedra and PO4 tetrahedra. The
sheets are linked by 7- or 6-oxygen coordinated K+ cations and hydroge
n bonding.
