Data on the mechanism of electrochemical steps in the electroreduction
of metal complexes to metal atoms are considered and generalized. Par
ticular attention is focused on electrode reactions proceeding at merc
ury and amalgam electrodes. In elucidating the mechanism of these reac
tions, the electrical double layer structure was taken into account an
d/or kinetic parameters of the cathodic and anodic processes were comp
ared.
