The charging of hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide gas bubbles in va
rious electrolytes was studied by measuring the bubble rise potential.
The gas bubbles acquire a negative charge whose magnitude is determin
ed by the zeta-potential and by the hydrodynamic and diffusion phenome
na on the bubble surface and in the electrolyte. Limitations of the pr
oposed method of charge evaluation at the gas-solution interface are c
onsidered.
