At. Altyntsev et al., OBSERVATIONS OF SOLAR MICROWAVE SPIKES WITH HIGH-SPATIAL-RESOLUTION AT THE SSRT - FIRST RESULTS, Astronomy and astrophysics, 303(1), 1995, pp. 249-254
The first observations of spatial and temporal features of subsecond s
pike events at the Siberian Solar Radio Telescope (SSRT) are reported.
For the limb event of 2 November 1992 the emission source was found t
o be located at a height of 35 thousand km above the photosphere. The
apparent size of the spike emission source (tens of arcsec) is unexpec
tedly large and comparable with those of the corresponding burst conti
nuum source. The possible role of electron cyclotron maser emission (E
CME) mechanism and plasma emission is discussed and the plasma paramet
ers are estimated in the framework of these two models.
