RAPID TEST FOR SEMIQUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION OF NITRATE IN FORAGES -INTRALABORATORY STUDY

A method is described for the semiquantitative determination of nitrat e in forages by use of a commercially available test strip. A finely g round sample is extracted with deionized water. The color of the react ion zone on the test strip changes from white to pink or purple depend ing on the nitrate concentration in sample extract. The color on the t est strip is compared with the color scale on the test strip container . An intralaboratory study demonstrated the applicability of the test strip to forages with nitrate concentrations from 200 to >10 000 ppm.
