Abstract
The set of feasible operations of a finite-time heat engine subject on ly to thermal losses is described in terms of a new inequality, which sets a lower bound for the time required by a Carnot-like process in t erms of the entropy changes of the reservoirs. This leads to an analog ue of the second law of thermodynamics and to a general notion of time efficiency for the class of processes considered.
